Frequently Asked Questions
We’re here to help! If you have any questions or feedback, please contact our friendly team on the details below.
Is it free to switch using Energy Deal?
Energy Deal will never invoice you for this service. We receive payment on a commission basis which means that we are only paid once we have successfully set up your contract with your new supplier.
How long does the transfer take?
The whole transfer process normally takes 4 to 6 weeks but in some instances it can take up to 8 weeks.
Is there a cooling off period?
To protect you from being rolled into out of contract prices with your current supplier, business energy contracts do not have a cooling off period.
How is business energy different to domestic?
In many ways, business energy and domestic energy are essentially the same – both are generated and transported in the same way, sometimes by the same suppliers – but the way business energy deals are packaged and sold to customers is very different to domestic energy. Here are some of the main differences between the two:
Cheaper rates – The way that contracts are set up, along with the fact that businesses often use more gas and electricity than households, means that commercial energy users benefit from cheaper rates than domestic users. But it’s not quite as simple as it sounds, as there are some extra costs you might have to factor in – business energy comes with a 20% VAT rate, compared to 5% for household energy, and include additional charges such as the Climate Change Levy (CCL).
Longer fixed term rates – While most domestic fixed rate deals run for a year, with an option to leave early if you want (often subject to an early exit fee), commercial contracts often provide longer fixed term rates of up to two or three years, which offers more protection from seasonal and annual price hikes. If you switch when prices are low, you could make some serious savings over the term of your fixed rate deal.
Longer switching windows – Although business energy deals don’t offer an early exit option, you can usually start comparing energy tariffs and arrange a new deal up to six months before your current one ends. The switch will then take place when your existing deal expires. If your domestic energy deal comes with an early exit fee, you can’t switch without paying an additional fee until your deal enters its last 49 days. This means commercial energy deals offer a longer energy switching window. On the downside, business energy deals don’t offer a 14-day cooling off period – one you sign up, you’re tied in. When you switch with Energy Deal, you can be certain your deal meets the exact needs of your business.
No dual fuel – Commercial energy deals don’t offer a dual fuel option, which means businesses need to arrange their energy as two separate fuels – business gas and business electricity. This means you’ll need to source your quotes for each fuel separately, which also means you’ll have two separate contracts. Switching with Energy Deal means we can sort both on the same call, saving you time and money.
Is there a discount for direct debit payments?
Yes, most of the tariffs we offer include a direct debit discount.
